Investor Education Month Proclamation
The month of October 2026 has been designated “Investor Education Month” in The Bahamas by Prime Minister The Hon. Philip Davis, KC. The proclamation serves to increase awareness of investing in the capital markets, the Commission’s role in its regulation, and to emphasize the importance of financial literacy and investor education in empowering the public to make sound investment decisions.
Financial Literacy for Students
To promote financial literacy among students and educators, the Securities Commission of The Bahamas will continue to expand its Financial Literacy Programme across the Family Islands. The Commission will visit senior high schools in Exuma and New Providence to deliver interactive presentations covering key financial literacy topics, including money management basics, understanding risk and reward, and fraud and scam prevention. The sessions will equip students and teachers with practical knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions and recognize potential investment scams.
Make Money Moves: A financial literacy program for teen mothers
The Commission will continue its partnership with the Andrea Archer Institute to provide financial literacy training for enrolled students as part of the World Investor Week 2026 initiatives. The Andrea Archer Institute provides education opportunities and training to assist new and existing teen mothers who had difficulty completing school.
Psychology of Money Podcast
The Commission will release the first episode of its new podcast called Mind Over Money. Aimed at young, digitally active Bahamians aged roughly 18 to 40, the podcast explores how emotions and behavioural biases shape financial decisions. It aims to build awareness, critical thinking and emotional self-recognition, not to give investment advice, so listeners are better equipped to recognise and pause before making pressured financial decisions.
Financial Foundation Web Guide
The Commission will develop an interactive, stage-based financial planning resource located on the commission’s website, guiding visitors through practical financial management by life stage (ages 19–30, 31–45, 46–60, and 60+). Each stage covers investing and retirement preparation with clear, plain-language guidance, rules of thumb, and fraud-prevention messaging tailored to the audience.
