MR. PHILIP STUBBS - CHAIRMAN

Mr. Philip Barrington Stubbs was
appointed Chairman of the
Securities
Commission of The Bahamas effective July 1, 2007;
succeeding Mr. Harold R. Longley who served as
chairman from April 1, 2007 to June 30, 2007.
Mr. Stubbs is a graduate of the
Government High School, 1970 and the Atlantic Provinces Association
of Chartered Accountants Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 1975; and has
over 36 years experience in accounting, auditing and business
advisory services. He has served a wide range of clientele that has
included international, domestic and public-sector clients; in
industries such as professional services, financial services, health
care, utilities, transport and shipping and retail and wholesale
merchandising. He has been employed with the accounting firm of
Ernst & Young for many years and has served as both the Managing
Partner of Ernst & Young (Bahamas) and a member of the Executive
Board of Ernst & Young Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman Area Practices
until his retirement on June 30, 2007.
Mr. Stubbs is a member of both the
Canadian and Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is a
former Council member, Treasurer and Secretary of the Bahamas
Institute of Chartered Accountants and has served on various
Institute’s committees. He is also the distinguished 2006 recipient
of the Minister of Financial Services Award of Excellence.
Mr. Stubbs is a member of several
civic organizations and has served on many local boards and
committees. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Over-the-Hill and
has served as Distinguished President from 1982 to 1983 and
Lieutenant-Governor of Merit for the Kiwanis Clubs in The Bahamas
from 1986 to 1987. Mr. Stubbs has also held such other offices as
Treasurer and Executive Board member of the Bahamas Children’s
Emergency Hostel. He is also a member of the Delta Lambda Boulé
(Bahamas Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc.).
Mr. Stubbs is a devoted churchgoer
and worships at St. Anne’s Parish, Fox Hill, where he is a Vestry
member. His other interests include photography and music
appreciation.
Mr. Stubbs is married to Sharlamae
(nee Brice) and together they are the proud parents of three sons
Lamon age 24, Lavado age 21 and Lakito age 18.
